I used Chatgpt to Critique my Website…

Running an online boutique is an ever-evolving process, and sometimes you need a second pair of eyes to spot things you might overlook. That’s where ChatGPT came in—I asked it to critique my website, and it didn’t hold back! Here’s what I learned and how I made changes to enhance my site’s user experience and branding.

Home Page: Where First Impressions Count

1. The Header Collage – Less is More

ChatGPT pointed out that my header was a bit chaotic, with too many competing visuals. While I loved the fun, dynamic feel, I decided to simplify it. I toned down the background and ensured my face remained the focal point without overwhelming product images. Now, the header still feels creative but is easier to digest at a glance.

2. Font Choices & Readability

I love pastel purple, but ChatGPT noted that the text could be tough to read, especially for those with visual impairments. I adjusted the shade slightly for better contrast while maintaining my brand’s aesthetic.

3. The “Escape of Reality” Hook

ChatGPT suggested “Escape from Reality” might flow better. After some thought, I decided to keep my original phrase because it aligns with my brand’s unique voice. However, I made sure to emphasize the meaning behind it in my branding copy so visitors understand the sentiment.

4. Consistency in the Category Section

Some images in my “Shop the Categories” section had text overlays, while others didn’t. The styles also varied—some were soft and dreamy, while others were bold. I revamped this section by making all images uniform in style, ensuring a cohesive, polished look.

5. Upgrading the Footer

My footer was pretty basic—just black with essential links. ChatGPT suggested adding some personality. Now, I’ve included small icons, a fun sign-off message, and a more visually appealing layout that keeps branding strong to the very bottom.

6. The YouTube Mention – Time to Own It!

Before, my site casually mentioned my YouTube channel, almost like an afterthought. ChatGPT called me out on it! I updated the text to be more engaging: “Check out our growing YouTube channel for behind-the-scenes fun!” Now, it feels intentional and inviting.

About Page: Making It More Engaging

1. Breaking Up Large Text Blocks

Long paragraphs can be intimidating. I structured my About page with clear headings, making it easier to skim:

Welcome to Abby’s Creative Escape – A quick introduction to my brand.

How It Started – My journey from digital art in high school to running a boutique.

What Makes My Shop Unique? – A focus on mental health advocacy, pet rescue, and sustainable shopping.

Let’s Connect! – Social media links and a newsletter sign-up.

2. Using Bullet Points for Quick Info

Instead of long descriptions, I highlighted key aspects in a more digestible format:

✅ Mental health & pet rescue-inspired designs
✅ Print-on-demand for sustainable shopping
✅ Custom & personalized options available

3. Adding More Visual Elements

I included high-quality images of my products and behind-the-scenes shots to make the page more engaging. Adding icons and dividers helped separate sections cleanly, making the content easier to navigate.

4. Stronger Call-to-Action (CTA)

Before, my About page casually mentioned my shop, but I needed a clearer CTA. Now, I’ve added buttons like:
[Shop Now] | [Follow on Instagram] | [Read My Blog]
This makes it easier for visitors to take action immediately.

5. Mobile-Friendly Adjustments

Since most people browse on their phones, I ensured that text blocks weren’t too long and that images scaled properly. This small tweak made a big difference in accessibility.

Final Thoughts

Getting a website critique from ChatGPT was eye-opening! Sometimes, we get so used to our own branding that we don’t see areas that need improvement. By making these changes, my site now feels more polished, professional, and user-friendly—all while keeping my brand’s personality intact.

If you’re a small business owner, I highly recommend getting an outside perspective (even if it’s from AI). It just might help you fine-tune your website for better engagement and conversions!
