Tips from a Print on Demand Artist to Help you Find Success!

This blog post is a continuation of the first blog post #shareyourstory.

When I first discovered print-on-demand back in 2016, I had no idea it would grow into such a big part of my creative journey. What started as a fun side project quickly evolved into a way for me to share my art, ideas, and passions with the world. In this post, I’m sharing a quick look back at the platforms I’ve tried, the lessons I’ve learned, and how it all led to where I am today

This blog post will be filled with tips that I have learned durning the past few years to increase sales. Find genreal tips to help increase sales and your following for your art in the first post.

1) Optimize your Art

Make your image look the best it can look on the various prodcuts

Make sure your files for tshirts and stickers are .pngs, they have a transparent bacrkound. For bigger items like scarfs, duvet covers and leggings use patterns. Redbubble makes that part easy but with other sites you need to make your own pattern with the art.

2) Try the same work in mulitple color pallettes

same pattern, 4 different color palletes

3) Find your style

Since your art is a extenstion of who you are, it gives you a chance to show your personality through your work.

I have 2 primary styles. Photography and Digital Artwork

My digital artwork has many subjects, while my photography focuses on one main subject. Nature.

Find your style. If you have a uniqe style that people will reconize, they will most likely refer your art to their friends and if they do buy something from you, they will come back.

4) Follow trends & Find Inspiration

I find inspiration in everything for my art.

I get ideas from trends, shopping, song lyircs, movies, daily hashtags……

Find what inspires you. More imporantly, put your spin on that inspration.

Add the same works to mulitple sites, then see what sells best where. I have the same works on all of my sites.

Today I want to talk about the importance of tagging your work on sites like Redbubble and other Print on Demand sites….

Why should I tag my work? Tag your work so it will be found! If you don’t tag your work how can it be found…..

What tags should I use? Describe your work. What first comes to mind when you look at your artwork. What are the colors used? What are the elements of the piece.

How many tags should I use? I always use as many tags as I can. I aim for 10 – 15 tags. Redbubble allows for 30 tags, every site is different. Society6 allows 15 tags, while Zazzle allows 10.

These are some of my best-sellers and what I tagged them….

You’re Worth it Typography – tribal, minimal, self care, mental health, pink, purple, blue

Blackbird Doodles – classic, typography, doodles, lyrics, silhouette, minimal, blackbird

Love is a Four Letter Word – paw print, love, minimal, marble, rose gold, shimmer, sparkle, pet lover

These works seem to be my best-sellers because the titles, descriptions and tags all work cohesively to help them get found.

Tags also help your work get found on search engines like Google and Bing.

Another tip when it comes to tagging look up similar artwork and see what tags they used.

Honestly I’m not the best person when it comes to the descriptions. I usually skip them… Most of my work is inspired by something. Trends, current media like movies, TV shows, themes of books or a symbol. I tend to avoid descriptions to avoid my work from being removed from the site.

I’m working on adding descriptions to all my designs.

Having good art isn’t enough, you need to have tags that set your design apart from the rest. Your artwork might be truly unique but if your tags suck then it won’t sell. Your tags will help your work be found with in the site itself but adding a tittle with keywords and a description that tells something about your work can help it is found on Google, Bing, Facebook and other search engine sites.

Note: Now that you know your style of art and you have made a sale, know that it takes time to get going. Useing print on demand sites isn’t a way to get rich over night. It takes time. Check out the first #shareyourstory blog post for more tips.
