Meet Cozy Critter Studio: Little Companions for Life’s Big Feelings

Spread the love

If you’ve spent any time exploring my work, you’ve probably met a Cozy Critter or two.

They’re cute. They’re colorful. They’re comforting.

But they’re becoming something much bigger than a collection of adorable characters.

Welcome to Cozy Critter Studio — the home of my Cozy Critters, mental wellness apps, creative tools, and little companions designed to make taking care of yourself feel a bit less overwhelming.

Where the Cozy Critters Began

The Cozy Critters started with a pretty simple idea:

What if taking care of your mental wellness felt a little more comforting?

Mental wellness tools can sometimes feel clinical, complicated, or like another thing we’re supposed to be doing perfectly.

I wanted to approach things differently.

Instead of staring at another checklist telling you what you should be doing, what if a tiny critter was sitting beside you saying:

You can take this one step at a time.

That’s the feeling behind Cozy Critter Studio.

More Than Cute Characters

Yes, the Cozy Critters are adorable.

I won’t argue with that.

But their purpose goes beyond being cute.

Each critter can become a friendly presence throughout different activities, whether you’re checking in with yourself, writing down your thoughts, practicing a grounding exercise, creating something, or simply trying to slow your brain down for a few minutes.

Sometimes we don’t need another person telling us to completely change our lives.

Sometimes we need something small that helps us get through the next few minutes.

That’s the role I imagine for the Cozy Critters.

They’re not therapists.

They’re not doctors.

And they’re definitely not replacements for professional mental health care.

They’re companions.

Mental Wellness Can Feel Different

One of my biggest goals with Cozy Critter Studio is making mental wellness tools feel approachable.

That might mean turning a breathing exercise into an activity you do alongside a critter.

It could mean checking in with your thoughts without judging yourself.

It could be writing something down in a journal.

Or maybe you need to scribble all over a digital sketchbook because your feelings don’t currently make sense as words.

Mental wellness doesn’t have to look the same for everyone.

And it doesn’t always have to feel serious.

Sometimes it can be colorful.

Sometimes it can be creative.

Sometimes it can involve a ridiculously cute animal cheering you on.

The Cozy Critter Apps

Cozy Critter Studio is becoming the home for several different apps I’ve been creating, with each one approaching self-care and emotional wellness a little differently.

Some focus on checking in with yourself.

Some offer grounding and coping exercises.

Some explore journaling and reflection.

Others use creativity and art as a way to express what you’re feeling.

I’m especially interested in exploring ideas from things I’m learning about, including mindfulness, positive psychology, cognitive behavioral approaches, creativity, journaling, and art as emotional expression.

Rather than trying to make one giant app that does absolutely everything, I like the idea of creating different Cozy Critter spaces for different moments.

Because what helps when you’re overwhelmed might be completely different from what you need when you’re reflecting on your day.

Creativity Belongs Here Too

One of the newest parts of the Cozy Critter world is something I’m especially excited about: combining creativity with emotional expression.

Sometimes you don’t know how to explain what you’re feeling.

But maybe you can draw it.

Scribble it.

Give the thought a character.

Turn an emotion into a color.

Make something messy.

That’s part of the idea behind Cozy Critters Creative — a digital sketchbook-inspired space where the goal isn’t to make “good” art.

The goal is to create.

Your drawing doesn’t have to be beautiful.

It doesn’t even have to make sense to anyone else.

It’s yours.

Why Critters?

I’ve always found animals comforting.

There’s something about a little creature simply sitting beside you that can make things feel less lonely.

They don’t expect you to have everything figured out.

They don’t care if you’re productive.

They don’t need you to explain why you’re having a bad day.

That’s the energy I want the Cozy Critters to have.

Each character can have their own personality, little quirks, encouraging reminders, and ways of interacting with you.

I don’t want them to feel like decorations inside an app.

I want them to feel like part of the experience.

Part of the Abby Juli World

Just like Softhearted Studio, Cozy Critter Studio is part of my larger creative world.

Abby Juli is the main home connecting everything I create.

Softhearted Studio is where my illustration, designs, products, and creative experiments can live.

And Cozy Critter Studio is where my Cozy Critters, apps, and interactive mental wellness projects belong.

There will naturally be some overlap between them.

The same critter you meet inside an app might eventually appear in an illustration, sticker, journal, or other creative project.

That’s part of what makes building this little world so much fun.

Built While I’m Still Learning

I’m not creating Cozy Critter Studio because I have every answer.

Quite the opposite.

I’m constantly learning.

I’m taking classes, reading, researching, experimenting with ideas, creating, redesigning, and occasionally realizing something I spent hours working on needs to be completely changed.

That’s part of the process.

I want Cozy Critter Studio to grow alongside what I’m learning while keeping its purpose simple:

Make caring for yourself feel a little more approachable, creative, and comforting.

A Little Companion for the Journey

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you start taking care of yourself.

You don’t need the perfect morning routine.

You don’t need to journal every day.

You don’t need to turn every negative thought into a positive one.

And you definitely don’t need to do everything at once.

Maybe today you journal.

Maybe tomorrow you draw.

Maybe another day you breathe with a Cozy Critter for a few minutes and call that enough.

Small things still count.

And if a tiny illustrated critter can make those moments feel a little warmer?

That’s exactly why I’m creating them.

Welcome to Cozy Critter Studio.

A cozy little corner for big feelings, small steps, and the critters who help us along the way.
