What Does a Mental Health Educator & Creator Actually Do?

Spread the love

Hi, I’m Abby! 👋💜

I’m a 90s kid who loves to create, learn about the mind, talk about the messy parts of being human, and somehow turn all of those things into mental wellness content.

Honestly, my brain usually has about 47 tabs open.

One tab is thinking about mindfulness.

Another is thinking about a new app idea.

Another wants to write a blog post.

Another wants to make something cute.

And somewhere in the background, a random song from the 2000s is probably playing.

Welcome to my brain. 😂

But all of those interests have led me to a title that describes a lot of what I love doing:

Mental Health Educator & Creator.

First Things First… What Is a Blog?

If you’ve ever wondered what exactly a blog is, you’re definitely not alone.

blog is a place on a website where someone regularly shares written content, ideas, information, experiences, stories, or resources about topics they’re interested in.

Think of it like an ongoing digital journal, magazine, resource center, or conversation.

A blog can be educational.

It can be personal.

It can be creative.

It can be informative.

And it can be a combination of all of those things.

That’s what I want this blog to be.

This isn’t just a place where I publish random articles and send you on your way.

It’s a space where we can learn, reflect, create, and explore mental wellness together.

So… What Do We Actually Do Here?

Here at Abby Juli, we talk about mental wellness, self-care, mindfulness, creativity, resilience, positive psychology, and everyday life.

But we aren’t stopping at simply talking about these topics.

We’re going to do things, too.

That might mean:

🧠 Learning about how our thoughts and emotions work

🌿 Exploring mindfulness and grounding techniques

💜 Talking about self-care beyond the stereotypical bubble bath

🌱 Learning about resilience and how we can bounce back from difficult experiences

✨ Exploring positive psychology and ways to encourage healthier thought patterns

📓 Using journaling and reflection prompts

🎨 Exploring creativity as a form of self-expression

💭 Challenging unhelpful thinking patterns

🫶 Talking about self-worth, boundaries, confidence, and personal growth

📱 Exploring creative mental wellness tools and apps

☕ Taking a few minutes to slow down and check in with ourselves

Sometimes I’ll teach you something.

Sometimes I’ll share a personal reflection.

Sometimes we’ll try an exercise.

Sometimes I’ll introduce a creative project.

And sometimes I’ll probably just ask a question that makes you stop and think.

This Is an Educational Space

One of the biggest things I want to emphasize is that this blog is about education and exploration.

Mental health can be complicated.

There are professional terms, research studies, therapeutic approaches, and lots of information floating around online.

My goal is to take some of those concepts and explain them in a way that feels approachable, understandable, and useful in everyday life.

You shouldn’t need a psychology textbook sitting next to you just to understand what mindfulness means. 😂

And you don’t need to have everything figured out before you start learning about yourself.

You can simply be curious.

Mental Wellness Doesn’t Have to Feel Like a Textbook

Mental health is important, but sometimes the language surrounding it can feel intimidating.

I like making things feel a little more human.

Mindfulness doesn’t have to mean sitting perfectly still for an hour trying desperately not to think.

Self-care isn’t always bubble baths and candles.

Positive psychology isn’t pretending everything is wonderful.

And resilience doesn’t mean nothing bothers you.

Sometimes mental wellness looks more like:

🌿 Taking five minutes to breathe and check in with yourself.

🧠 Asking, “Is this thought actually helping me?”

📓 Dumping everything in your brain onto a journal page.

🎨 Making something simply because creating feels good.

☕ Sitting quietly with your coffee instead of immediately reaching for your phone.

💜 Reminding yourself that you’re a human being having a human moment.

And sometimes?

It’s laughing because your brain has managed to turn one tiny awkward interaction from three days ago into a full-length documentary.

Brains are weird.

Creativity Is Part of My Mental Wellness Too

I’ve always loved creating.

Art, design, photography, writing, websites, apps — give me an idea and there’s a pretty good chance my brain will immediately start wondering what I can make out of it.

Creativity can also be a form of self-care.

Creating something can give us somewhere to put our thoughts and emotions when we don’t quite know how to explain them.

You don’t have to be an “artist,” either.

You can doodle.

Take pictures.

Write.

Color.

Garden.

Craft.

Cook.

Design something.

Make a playlist.

Creativity doesn’t have to produce something impressive.

Sometimes the point is simply enjoying the process.

And Yes, I’m Still Learning Too

Being a mental health educator doesn’t mean having life completely figured out.

I definitely don’t.

I’m still learning, growing, reflecting, changing my mind, making mistakes, trying new things, and discovering what works for me.

That’s actually part of why I enjoy writing about these topics.

I don’t want mental wellness to feel like someone standing on the other side saying:

“I figured everything out. Follow me.”

I’d rather it feel like:

“Hey, being human is complicated. I learned something interesting that might help us understand ourselves a little better. Let’s explore it.”

There’s something freeing about realizing we don’t have to have every answer.

We can simply keep learning.

Educator Doesn’t Mean Therapist

There’s also an important distinction I want to make.

I am a mental health educator and creator — not a therapist, psychologist, counselor, or other licensed mental health professional.

The things I create are meant for education, reflection, creativity, and general wellness.

They’re not meant to diagnose mental health conditions, replace therapy, or provide individualized treatment.

For example, I might share a CBT-inspired reflection that encourages you to examine a thought from another perspective.

That’s different from providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Being transparent about that boundary is incredibly important when creating mental health content.

Just a Creative 90s Kid With a Lot of Ideas

At the end of the day, that’s probably the simplest description of me.

I’m a 90s kid with a creative brain, a love of learning, an interest in mental wellness, and way too many ideas.

I create because I love creating.

I learn because I’m curious.

And I share because maybe something I’m learning or creating will encourage someone else to pause, reflect, or take a little better care of themselves today.

So that’s what we’re doing here.

We’re learning.

We’re creating.

We’re reflecting.

We’re exploring mental wellness.

And we’re figuring out this whole being-human thing one day at a time.

🧠 Learn about yourself.

🌿 Take care of yourself.

🎨 Create something.

💜 Give yourself permission to be human.

And maybe laugh at your overthinking every once in a while.

Because none of us really have this whole being-human thing completely figured out.

We’re learning as we go.
